Wow! Getting to interview Dr. Heineman was a great experience in understanding what is entailed in my major, an what might be in my future career. After sitting down with Dr. Heineman I soon came to realize the amount of work and writing that is involved with my major of communication. When interviewing Dr. Heineman I got to ask him multiple questions about what type of writing he does. As well who’s his audience, his favorite article, and a few other question that got me to truly understand what type writing I will be doing for the rest of my Bloomsburg career.
After asking the first question of the interview process I was quiet impressed in the amount of writing an work that is put into my major of communication. Dr. Heineman told me that most of his writing is discussing and grounded in theory that provide explanatory power. Although he teaches multiple different classes for the communication major he seems to have similar outlook on writing and expects his students to put an honest effort in his assignments. When talking to him he harped on the point that he wants his students to argue and try to prove him wrong in some of his writing assignment. I learned he wants his students to challenge an think out side the box and never stop asking question and use this to have a stronger paper. I was very surprised when I found out that the majority of his writing was emailing and answering emails from his students. As well writing on BOLT and keeping his students up to date with what assignments are due. One of the questions I asked was what his purpose of writing was. Dr Heineman says to me the purpose of writing is it’s a way for me to explain perspectives on things that I feel that are interesting to my reader’s and to spark a reciprocal back and fourth conversation that can sometime lead into a good healthy debate. After understanding the purpose of Dr. Heineman writings I then asked who his audience was. He told me that his audience was those who were in the same field as I am weather graduate or undergraduate. He made it clear that anyone who is interested in the topic can be part of the audience. Getting to talk to Dr Heineman was a great experience in learning what I needed to know for my major and my career. He seemed to be very interested in writing and gave great inspiration to show pride in what you write an never stop trying to excel in your writing ability.
One of the last questions I got to speak to him about was what his favorite article was. He told me that Remembering World War II by Barbara A. Biesecker was one of his favorite research articles. When I ask why he enjoyed this article so much he told that he admired her writing dearly and uses her in his daily life and writing, and give him great motivation. He also mentioned that this article expertly analyzes and creates argument in theory and this is why he finds this to be his favorite research article. He expressed that when people engage in my writings and push to grater knowledge for all his mission of his work is complete. Listening to Dr. Heineman get excited about this article and telling me how it has helped him be the writer he is today definitely was a good eye opening experience.
I got to get to know Dr Heineman a lot better and learned so much about what type writing was in the field of communication. Getting to interview doctor Heineman was a great experience for me an gave me a lot of knowledge towards my major. This interview gave me some great tips and pointers that I would have never had got to learn if I didn’t get to talk to Dr. Heineman.
